Spelthorne Committee for Access Now (SCAN) is a voluntary group, based in Spelthorne, Surrey, UK whose members are volunteers representing the views of people with disabilities on matters of accessibility to transport, the outdoor environment, buildings and facilities in Spelthorne. Our founding members were instrumental in the development of Staines Shopmobility and they also conducted the research that provided the information needed for the development of the Spelride service.
We Consult With Spelthorne Borough Council and Surrey County Council on local issues such as:
  • Pedestrian Crossings
  • Pedestrian/Cycle Shared pathways
  • Disabled Access to buildings, shopping areas, countryside and leisure services
For the Improvement of  access to facilities and services for all members of our community in Spelthorne, please let SCAN know about:
  • pavements that are being obstructed either by badly parked vehicles or overhanging trees,
  • crossing points that need dropped kerbs
  • buildings or services that are not accessible
Since 2007 we have supported the Spelthorne Physical, Sensory and Cognitive Disabilities Forum and we hold quarterly meetings with representatives of various service providers such as Action for Carers and Adult Social Care and as well as other Surrey wide forums and groups.

SCAN actively encourages new members, to share and promote our objectives and meetings are open to everyone. Membership is open to any person or group who support the objectives of SCAN. There is a membership fee of £5 per person or voluntary organisation.
If you wish to become a member and/or make donations to SCAN please contact our Treasurer on lawindle@spelthorneaccess.org.uk  for further information.
Donations can also be made by registering with Easy Fundraising - see our features page and then every time you make an online purchase with any of the High Street retailers, energy and phone service providers and holiday or hotel chains, a donation will be made to SCAN's account.
